Evaluation Question

How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

From close study and analysis, we strategically combined the main production task with the ancillary texts in order to develop our skills and knowledge as well as to successfully complete our given task: to create a marketing package for the artist chosen which in our case is Jet. We made a music video for one of their songs as well as a Digipak for the album’s release and a magazine advert. We opted to do an indie/rock type of genre as we loved the song ‘Are you gonna be my girl?’ and coincidently it falls within this genre.

We decided that we wanted to keep with the same red and black theme as the logo and the digipack cover. The logo at the top has the same colour and shape as the side borders. The image of the holding the mic shows that the band is all about the music, the costume and the stern face gives an impression of a cool rock band. At the left side, all the information relates to that of a typical band poster and gives advertisement not only for the c.d. but tour dates that a band would have up. The presence of the song 'Are You Gonna Be My Girl' gives an advertisement boost as fans that like that song would be inclined to purchase the whole album. The poster is brought out by the bright colour of the red so that it stands out more however the blacks and the cartoon effect on Nick shows that the band is modern and stylish.

This digi pack was created in Photoshop and is 15 pages including the front and back cover. The colours used are black and red which are the same colours we used for our advertisement poster. We also changed our brightness and contrasting our band images to give the band an almost cartoon effect. Our digi pack also contains lyrics for all the songs from the Get Born album and on some of the lyric pages image of the band and singer have been included to stop the pages from looking to plane or boring.
